HISTORY

 Reasons for foundation

• Changing of international standards in education and training of modern economists
• Increasing complexity of economic processes and methods of economic information processing
• Growing need to integrate economic science and education
• Great experience accumulated by the scientists of RAS and other Scientific Institutions in studying different economic theories
• Increasing demand from business structures and state administrative bodies for professional economists with deep knowledge of modern economic realities

 The main stages of development

• The MSE was founded on the initiative of the Rector of the MSU prof. Viktor A. Sadovnichii on April 29, 2004
• Vise-President of RAS prof. Alexander D. Nekipelov was appointed director of MSE MSU
• July 2004 first students joined the MSE to study MSc course «Economic Theory and Modern Russia Development»
• September 2005 first students joined the MSE to study BA course «Economics»
• In June 2006-the first students were graduated with the degree MSc «Economics» In between 2004 – 2007 four main departments were set up:

• The Department of General Economic Theory
• The Department of Econometrics and Mathematical Methods in Economy
• The Department of Financial Strategy
• The Department of Political and Social Sciences

• In 2007 a memorandum of intentions with the Middle Tennessee State University (USA) was signed
• In 2007 a memorandum of intent with the Lassalle University (Pennsylvania, USA) was signed
• In 2008 the first issue of graduates from professional retraining courses for top manages: «Economic Theory and Practice of Economic Systems»
• The first selection of students for Master course in the new program: «Financial Economics»
• In 2008 Post-graduate courses were opened (PhD)

THE MISSION

To help students to obtain a deep and integrated understanding of the economic system based on modern scientific achievements.

To make a graduate capable of any task solution with critical approach, and so that any decision made is a result of creative thinking, but not a mechanical application of theoretical schemes and models.

THE MAIN GOAL

 To train high-skilled specialists - Bachelors and Masters who possess:

• The profound knowledge of the Russian economy
• The ability to professionally use all main categories and contemporary achievements schools of the economic science
• The capability to work effectively in the tough global competition environment

DEVELOPMENT PROSPECTS

Best students of MSE would have an opportunity to go abroad to get a Ph.D. from the authoritative USA, UK and other economic educational centers. Along with all economic mainstream subjects, the program of study includes both subjects reflecting the latest achievements in Russian economic science and new approach to the overseas economic theory. Once the School gets its full project capacity the number of students will reach 400. There is a plan to organize part time and correspondence forms of educational process.
